Everything suddenly went very quickly since the last blog post. We will handover the keys to our house a little later now, on September 25th, but the date is fixed now. I (Selmar) handed in my resignation. When I told them how busy we were to empty the whole house, I was sent home immediately. That has proven to be very necessary. We are very busy to pack all our belongings, to sell the them, give them away or throw them away.
At work I found out that I can stay employed till December and still get paid, but only have to work a few more days after we handed over the keys to our house. Because of the remaining paid leave, I will get paid until December without having to work.
The pressure was on the empty the house in time. We will be needing some things, like some furniture, pretty much till the end. It seemed almost impossible to e.g. find a destination for cupboards. Having the houses cleared by a professional company was much more expensive than we were willing to pay. Bringing everything to the dump ourselves also costs a substantial amount of money, and selling or giving everything away via an online marketplace in such a short time didn’t seem realistic. In the beginning of the week, we prayed that we would get rid of all furniture this week. What an answer to our prayers! A Christian couple came to pick up 3 cupboards, which they wanted to have for a aid project in Ghana, but they ended up taking 5 cupboards, a table and a lot of glassware. Tomorrow, they will be back for another 5 cupboards, boxes with toys and all kinds of tableware. We could not have imagined that one party would help us get rid of so many items. And on top of that, we are helping poor people in Ghana with it!
With regards to the visa, we unfortunately did not get the immediate approval we were hoping for, but were asked to provide a long list of additional evidence. We are currently working on that, together with our lawyer.
